When we asked Brian what his favorite part about their first date was, Candace erupted in laughter. Brian said that on the day of their first date, he had no clean boxers. So what’s a guy to do when he has no clean boxers? He wears none. Brian wore no boxers on their first date and went commando. And that, we learned, was his favorite part about their first date.

Candace reached out to us last year to photograph her family, and over this time we’ve been lucky enough to learn so much about them. And we love their story so much. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s a story about love and life, and if we’re being real, love and life gets messy. But it’s all those imperfections that make it so beautiful!

Candace and Brian met in high school, and while life took them on separate paths, they each found their way back a short time later. They’re now married, have two of the most adorable kids, and are celebrating more than ten years together. And if we’ve learned anything from them, it’s that we’ve gotta embrace all of life’s ups and down, messy and all… boxers or no boxers. Because even in those downs, just like Brian who had no chonies to wear on the first date with his future wife, there can still be positivity and humor in all of it.
