What happens when you get a beautiful couple for desert engagement photos at Gates Pass and they bring their adorable pup? A whole lotta fun and some stunning photos to boot!
We both grew up in Tucson, but admittedly it’s taken us a long time to truly appreciate the beauty of the desert. The saying “the grass is always greener on the other side” was especially true for us, both figuratively and literally. We longed for all the things we didn’t have- big trees, green grass, and large blue lakes to play in. But over these last few years, we’ve started to see Tucson in a different light. We’ve noticed the way the desert magically lights up during certain times of the day. And on some occasions, when we’re lucky, we’re often treated to one of many beautiful Arizona sunsets. Plus, where else can you go in the winter time and still get beautiful outdoor weather (and shooting light) that you’re not freezing in? So any time our clients request desert engagement photos, we get just a little bit giddy. And when Michelle shared that Tim proposed during one of their trips to Gates Pass, we knew that we had to head back there for their engagement session.
Michelle and Tim met in college 9 years ago, and it has been such a joy for us to learn more about their story. Fun fact: Michelle and Tim are both professional musicians! Tim is the Professor of Violin at the UofA, who also plays in a quartet and travels all over the world, while Michelle is the Associate Concertmaster of the Tucson Symphony. We actually had the pleasure of seeing Michelle play recently and it was AMAZING. She sweetly invited us to one of their events, Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert, and to say that we were impressed is an understatement (we highly recommend you see one of the concerts put on by the TSO!). For two people who have little musical background, we are in such awe and overwhelming admiration of these two!
While we do live in Tucson, December is still a chilly month for us. So thank you, Michelle, for being so awesome and braving this cooler weather in not one, but two dresses. Through shivers, she still managed to look stunning! And of course we had Seppe to distract us from the cold and a fun toast at the end to help commemorate Michelle and Tim’s engagement!
We always consider it such an honor to be able to share in this time with our couples. This is a season of excitement, celebration, and planning not only for the day they say “I Do,” but for all of the days that will follow. And any time we photograph an engagement session, we’re reminded of the anticipation and joy we felt in the days leading up to our own wedding day!
Michelle and Tim, thank you both for allowing us to capture this special season in your life! We loved our time together. And we loved getting to meet and hang out with your sweet fur baby, Seppe. We’re so excited and we look forward to capturing your wedding day next year at the Sonoran Desert Museum! Here are just a few of our many favorites from our time together!
